The reconstruction era places the present day issues with racism and polarization in historic context. We are presently witnessing a continuation of violence of whites who were determined to prevent and/or reversal any and all gains made by former enslaved people in the US. It's difficult to understand today's world without an analysis of history, and the Reconstruction era is a critical part of that history that is generally not taught to most students, and consequently not understood by most adults.
