Organization of American Historians 2026 Conference

The Zinn Education Project co-hosted a booth at the Organization of American Historians Conference in Philadelphia from April 16–18.

We shared resources for teaching truthfully about the American Revolution, our Reconstruction report, our Teach Climate Justice campaign, and a wide range of people’s history lessons. Our Reconstruction report and campaign drew especially strong interest from visitors.

Educators were excited about our Teach the Black Freedom Struggle classes which offer the chance to learn once a month from cutting-edge historians. A number of  presenters from the series spoke at the conference including Kellie Carter Jackson, Brian Jones, Dave Zirin, Justene Hill Edwards, Joshua Clark Davis, and Mia Bay. We connected in person with Teach Reconstruction advisors Tyler D. Parry, Kate Masur, and Hilary Green; and saw colleagues from LAWCHA, Beacon Press, and the Smithsonian.

Visitors took photos with our #TeachTruth frame, recorded reflections in our story booth, and picked up copies of our Teach Reconstruction report.

OAH 2026 in Philadelphia
We shared resources from Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change, the two organizations that coordinate the Zinn Education Project. We co-hosted the booth with HowardZinn.org, the Colored Conventions Project, and the SNCC Legacy Project.

Below are some of the comments shared by teachers and historians.
