Brigid McMaster

I have had the privilege to teach United States history for over 30 years and have witnessed  many changes and challenges in standards and curriculum, but Howard Zinn has been a constant source of scholarly support and encouragement in my commitment to train young historians.  I have received countless thank you notes from former students who have gone on to teach history, practice law, lead communities and influence others in many exciting ways. I’m also honored to say that I met Prof. Zinn in 2005 and he signed my copy of A People’s History of the United States.

In May 2020, a student who graduated from high school wrote to tell me he finally got around to completing my assignment to read the entire People’s History.  He is prepping to teach a university course in Social Justice while completing his PhD. Enough said, this history teacher’s dream come true once again!
