Time Periods: 20th Century
Themes: Native American

Narrated by Robert Redford, this dramatic documentary exposes the U.S. government’s desperate attempts to convict Leonard Peltier of the murder of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota on June 26, 1975. Highly recommended for high-school classes.

In South Dakota, U.S. soldiers massacred the Native American population (including Sioux Chief Sitting Bull) in 1890. On June 6, 1975, two FBI agents were killed in a village near Oglala, and Native American leader Leonard Peltier was convicted of murder. The case involves conflicting evidence that suggests Peltier is an innocent victim.
